Dr. Randa Fakhreldin
Dr. Randa Fakhreldin (Cairo, 1965) is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist consultant. Project Director for the NGOs coalition against FGM since 2009 and the Executive Director of the UNION AGAINST HARMFUL PRACICIES ON WOMAN AND CHILD since 2013. She is an expert in Human Rights (Women and Girls Rights) Promote a Social Norms Approach By working with organizations that reach school personnel and youth, aims to change opinions about GBV within communities, also seeks to discuss FGM/C within a broader conversation, like campaigns related to women’s empowerment, health and education initiatives, and gender based violence (GBV).
By nesting anti-FGM/C messaging within a broader GBV/social norms framework, hopes to make it more visible within the human rights discourse and increase awareness of the FGM/C practice. “Whenever there is real change in the society it comes from the people. You have to Respect the people, and they need to be given the opportunity to make the choice, and get the information so they can make informed decisions. The people need to decide for themselves, rather than the government deciding for them.”
